Girls can be so moody...

I know I must have blogged about this before, I'm sure. I feel too lazy to search back through all my posts. I know I need to use labels more. Tonight I will start. For sure.

Girls can be so darn moody, can't they? Our five oldest girls range in age from 11 to 17. Yes, you read that right. Moody central. Especially at certain times of the month, if you know what I'm saying...and I thought diapers were pricey. Hah! My girls are wonderful. They really, really are. The times I get to spend with them doing "girl stuff" are great. But they can be challenging too. Those are the times they really make me appreciate my boys. (Not that I don't already, I just value them extra sometimes--but that's a topic for a different blog).

Some of the girls have come to us as infants, some as teenagers--and all ages in between. Some are from the USA, some from China, some from Ethiopia. Some have been here for years and years, while others joined our family not so long ago. It's really a lot for any teen or pre-teen to manage. Heck, it can be a lot for us to manage.

The girls can bicker, fight, sneer, dismiss, ignore, slam, whine, cry, torture, disdain and isolate like you wouldn't believe. They do this with each other and they do this with us. Some of them do this to their brothers or to their little sisters, who I am sure are taking it all in. And just when we think we can't take it anymore, they will giggle, scream, laugh hysterically, talk, play games, watch movies, share clothes, give hugs, apologize, help out unexpectedly and make us beam with pride. At these times, it's so easy to forget the more challenging times. I look at them, with all their diverse interests and personalities and just wonder who they will be when they are grown. I feel so excited for them and all they will accomplish.

I also know that they will have some amazing coping skills when they go out into the world, whether they realize it or not right now.
